Is there a warranty?

Yes! Swordfish UV is backed by a Lifetime Warranty. Should something happen to your Swordfish UV whole home unit, no worries - you’re covered. The Swordfish UVC lamp should be replaced annually for maximum effectiveness (the Swordfish UVC lamp is not included in the warranty).

Why is Swordfish UV better than room air purifiers?

Single-room units are designed to be used in one room at a time and can only purify a limited area, often as little as 200 square feet. Because Swordfish UV is installed into your central air system, it is able to disinfect the air in your entire house with virtually no maintenance - no filters to change and nothing to clean. Also, Swordfish UV costs just ⅓ the price of less-effective room units so you’ll save both time and money.

What’s included with Swordfish UV?

Each Swordfish UV unit comes with:

  • A Swordfish UV unit
  • A Swordfish UV mounting plate
  • A Swordfish UV 36W UVC lamp
  • 6’ power cord
  • 2” metal-cutting hole drill bit for easily installation
  • 3 screws

Where should I install Swordfish UV? Return or Supply duct?

For optimum air purification, we recommend that your Swordfish UV be installed in the return (inbound) duct of your home’s heating and cooling system. In addition, should you also wish to destroy/prevent mold buildup on your AC coil, you may install Swordfish UV in the supply (outbound) duct. See diagram below:

Can I install Swordfish UV on a split unit/heat pump/packaged unit?

Swordfish UV should only be installed inside the ductwork of your heating and cooling system. Split units, heat pumps, and packaged units do not include ductwork. That is the reason one cannot install Swordfish UV on the specified units.

Do I need a professional installer to install the unit?

No. Swordfish UV is designed for DIY installation. Please refer to our installation video on our website.

How close can Swordfish UV be from the filter when installing?

Swordfish UV includes a 36W UVC lamp. UVC deteriorates any non-metal components which includes filters. Please install Swordfish UV at least 3 feet away from the furnace filter.

Does Swordfish UV require maintenance?

Swordfish UV is virtually maintenance free. It’s as easy as changing a light bulb once a year! Swordfish's UVC lamp lasts approximately 10,000 hours or one full year! Over time, UVC lamps lose their ultraviolet light wave intensity, so for optimal performance, we recommend replacing the lamp once a year.

How long does the UVC lamp last?

Swordfish's UVC lamp lasts approximately 10,000 hours or one full year! Swordfish UV has an easy-to-read indicator light that lets you know when it is time to replace the lamp. When the red light turns on, you should replace the UVC lamp.

Does Swordfish UV generate any (Ozone) smell?

Swordfish UV does not generate Ozone. The Swordfish UVC lamp operates at 254nm wavelength, which does not generate Ozone.

Does the unit turn on/off with the airflow?

No. Swordfish UV does not turn on/off with airflow.

Does Swordfish UV operate/purify air 24/7?

Yes, Swordfish UV runs 24/7 even if the furnace fan turns off. As long as the lamp is operating, it purifies air; however, if the furnace fan turns off, there will be no air circulation throughout the home and purified air will not travel to different parts of the home. The home should get purified air as soon as the air start to recirculate/furnace fan starts operating. We recommend that the furnace fan is on at all times to continually circulate the purified air.

How long is the lamp? Minimum duct size into which it may be installed?

The 36W and 60W lamps extend up to 15.93" (from the power head) inside the ductwork.  The 18W lamp extends up to 9" (from the power head) inside the ductwork.

What is the radiation generated from the lamp in micro watts per centimeter square?

The lamp radiation = 120 μW/cm2 at 1 m

When should I replace my lamp?

We recommend replacing your Swordfish UV lamp once a year, or when your Replacement Lamp Status Indicator light turns red on the unit.

How do I replace my lamp?

You can order Swordfish UVC replacement lamps directly from us here

Can I use Swordfish UV outside of my ductwork?

No. You should only use the Swordfish UV inside of ductwork of your heating and cooling system where UVC radiation cannot escape. UVC radiation is harmful to the human eyes and skin. Direct exposure can cause severe burns (of the skin) and eye injuries (photokeratitis).

Would Swordfish UV deteriorate plastic?

Yes, Swordfish UV will deteriorate plastic over time.

What is my annual energy cost for using Swordfish UV?

Using Canadian average of $0.17/kWh and using the unit 24/7 and 365 days a year, it would cost you as low as $28 every year on your energy bill.

How does UVC technology work?

When viruses, bacteria, pollen and other pathogens are exposed to UVC light, their cells’ DNA and RNA become damaged. Once the cells are damaged, they are unable to replicate, which renders them harmless.

UVC light is measured in nanometer wavelengths. Swordfish UV uses a 254nm UVC light as scientific studies have proven that 254nm is the most effective wavelength to destroy pathogens and disinfect the air.

Will my Swordfish UV Lamp replacement with UVA product code work with my Swordfish UV Whole Home Unit with UVC product code?

Yes, the 18, 36, and 60 watt lamps that were originally designated with the UVA product code have undergone a transition to the UVC product code.

Both the UVA and the new UVC product codes remain fully compatible with the Swordfish UV Air Purification System. However, please be aware that during our inventory transition, you may still come across some lamps that list UVA in the product code.

Rest assured, whether you receive a lamp with the UVA or UVC code, both variants are compatible with your Swordfish UV Air Purification System.

Should you have any inquiries or require further clarification regarding this transition, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
